Morning Commute Soundtrack: New Order

I have!! – I instead gave the Frasier-to-their-Cheers brethren New Order a chance, and found the waters oddly tempting. While I appreciate primal, atonal music from time to time, Joy Division was just too much of that, whereas New Order is a little more melodic and precise.
Power, Corruption & Lies was as good a place as any to dive in, and I quickly found it to be my favorite of their discography. There are moments of pure melodic gentleness, as well as some of the ragged raw energy of Joy Division (as on ‘Age Of Consent’, which, I shamefacedly admit, was my gateway to New Order by way of a Target ad), but it’s the breezy ‘Your Silent Face’ that I find to be the most affecting, and is one of those rare songs that lasts six minutes yet could go on forever, and I’d be perfectly fine with that.
