Cat Stevens: Back To Earth

Let me make one thing clear right now: I’m not a Cat Stevens fan. Don’t get me wrong; I like the guy, I like his music, and I thought that whole “Yusuf Islam is a terrorist and on the no-fly list” eruption was simultaneously embarrassing and funny. But I was never really drawn to him in the same way that I was to other singer-songwriters, like Neil Young or Bob Dylan or Elvis Costello. So when a friend burned me a copy of Tea For The Tillerman a few years ago, I bought my own copy (I like looking at the liner notes and booklets) and Teaser And The Firecat, just for the hell of it. I was glad I did, because both albums are excellent, but I really felt little desire to explore anything beyond that. Read the rest of this entry »
